Proscar (finasteride) 5mg tablet is an medication used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. It is used to grow prostate, relieve BPH, and reduce the risk of infections caused by the prostate bacteria. Proscar tablet contains the active ingredient finasteride. It works by blocking the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the body. DHT causes the prostate to shrink, resulting in increased urinary symptoms and increased risk of enlarged prostate. Proscar 5mg 5mg tablet is used in men to treat BPH and prostate cancer. It may be used in combination with other BPH treatment options, as directed by a doctor. Consult your doctor before starting this medication to determine if it is the right treatment for you. It may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Before taking Proscar 5mg 5mg tablet, tell your doctor if you are allergic to finasteride, or if you have any other allergies. Before you begin taking Proscar 5mg 5mg tablet, inform your doctor if you are being treated for BPH, BPH symptoms, any prescription meds you may be taking, or if you have any other allergies. Additionally, inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding, if you are pregnant, or if you have diabetes, thyroid problems, or kidney problems. Proscar 5mg 5mg tablet should not be taken by people who are allergic to finasteride, or to the inactive ingredients in Proscar tablet. Proscar 5mg 5mg tablet may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Daktarin®Before taking Daktarin®, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Pregnant or trying to get pregnant may increase the risk of side effects associated with taking Daktarin®. Additionally, inform your doctor if you are a known user of Daktarin®. A doctor may be able to adjust the dose of Daktarin® to see if it helps your condition. A common side effect of Daktarin® is decreased sex drive and erectile difficulties. Use of Daktarin® with other medications that contain DHT may affect the way other medications work or increase the risk of side effects. Consult your doctor before using Daktarin® if you are using or have recently taken nitrates (e.g., isosorbide, isosorbide mononitrate, and amyl nitrate), have a history of heart attack or stroke, or are taking cisapride (tamsulosin) for asthma. Discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of taking Daktarin® for BPH, including the potential side effects and drug interactions.

A new study published today in the British Medical Journal suggests that finasteride is the only drug approved to treat high-grade prostate cancer in men.
Researchers from the University of Manchester in the UK and the University of Oxford studied how much a drug in Propecia and Finasteride (Proscar) caused the disease. The study found that the drug did not cause any serious side effects and that the drug was effective in preventing more than 20 percent of the cancers diagnosed in men after treatment.
Finasteride was originally intended to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), but it was discovered in 1997 that it caused prostate cancer. A prostate cancer prevention drug is prescribed to men who have been diagnosed with BPH, but the study’s author, Professor Robert Waugh, said: “While Propecia was originally intended to treat BPH, the researchers did not find any reason to think it was the drug’s intended purpose.
“It’s an important finding because the way finasteride works in the body is not an exact copy of the action that Proscar has. It works by blocking the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, which is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone that can cause BPH to progress to prostate cancer.”
According to the drug’s manufacturer, Merck & Co, the risk of developing prostate cancer has increased in men who have been diagnosed with BPH, but the drug caused more than 20 percent of the cancers to be diagnosed.
The drug’s side effects include low testosterone, depression, decreased muscle strength, erectile dysfunction and a decrease in libido.
Merck & Co is now requiring more information about finasteride’s side effects and the drug’s risks to patients. Propecia and Finasteride, the two drugs marketed under the brand names Proscar and Proscar-D, have been linked to a 50 percent risk of an enlarged prostate, and the drug is not expected to be approved for use in men at risk.
The research was conducted by a University of Manchester team. The study was funded by the Medical Research Council.
Professor Waugh said: “The study showed that it was effective in preventing more than 20 percent of the cancer in men treated with Propecia and Finasteride. Studies show that Propecia and Finasteride can be used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, but the study was funded by Merck and not by the drug company.”
Finasteride is known to reduce prostate size by blocking the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT. DHT is a hormone that can cause BPH to progress to prostate cancer.
“We are currently evaluating whether Propecia and Finasteride is appropriate for treatment of male pattern baldness, but we are currently waiting on the results of the trial to be published in the British Medical Journal, which showed that the drug did not cause any serious side effects and that the drug was effective in preventing more than 20 percent of the cancers diagnosed in men after treatment,” Waugh said.
“The study also showed that the drug did not cause any serious side effects and that the drug was effective in preventing more than 20 percent of the cancers diagnosed in men after treatment.”
The research team also found that the drug caused fewer men to develop prostate cancer than did Proscar.
The study showed that the drug did not cause any serious side effects and that the drug was effective in preventing more than 20 percent of the cancers diagnosed in men after treatment.
“We are now seeing some of the most serious side effects of Propecia and Finasteride,” Waugh said. “They may be life-threatening, such as an enlarged prostate. We are also seeing some of the most serious side effects of the drug.”
For example, the study showed that the drug was not effective in preventing more than 20 percent of the cancers diagnosed in men after treatment.
“We are currently seeing some of the most serious side effects of Propecia and Finasteride, such as an enlarged prostate. We are also seeing some of the most serious side effects of the drug, such as an enlarged prostate. We are seeing some of the most serious side effects of the drug, such as an enlarged prostate.

RefreshFinasteride is used to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia. BPH is caused by an enlarged prostate. Men with BPH usually have difficulty urinating, a decreased flow of urination, hesitation at the beginning of urination, and a need to get up at night to urinate. Finasteride will make these symptoms less severe and reduce the chance that prostate surgery will be needed. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines such as an alpha-blocker to treat BPH. For men with hair loss, finasteride will increase the number of scalp hairs but will not increase the amount of body hair.
Finasteride blocks the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme changes testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow or hair loss in males. It will increase testosterone levels in the body, which decreases prostate size and increases hair growth on the scalp. The effect of finasteride on the prostate and scalp will only last as long as the medicine is taken. When it is stopped, the prostate begins to grow again and the hair will be lost.
